“Not Cold Enough” Is Usually Airflow, Not the Sealed System
In a tight alcove there is almost no clearance behind or above the refrigerator. Heat from the condenser has nowhere to go, the coils clog faster than they would in a house, and the compressor runs far longer than the manufacturer intended. The compartment drifts warm, especially through summer.

Water Under the Crisper Is Almost Never a Leak
Water pooling in the bottom of the refrigerator compartment is normally a frozen or blocked defrost drain rather than a leaking line. Meltwater from the defrost cycle cannot reach the drain pan, so it backs up and finds its way into the compartment.
Thawing the drain makes the symptom go away for a few weeks and then it returns. The drain has to be cleared properly and the cause of the freeze identified — often a defrost heater or thermostat that is not completing its cycle. In an upstairs unit this matters twice over, because water that escapes the cabinet reaches the apartment below.
Ice Makers
Hollow cubes can be caused by restricted water flow or temperature conditions. Cubes that freeze together can result from partial melting or long storage in the bin. Ice under the bin needs a separate check to find the source of the water. Cube shape alone cannot identify a failed valve or ice maker. We test the fill cycle rather than replacing the assembly on symptoms alone.
